Last grass planting
End of October is a good target for getting the last of the grass seed planted for the year. It may germinate even later, though, depending on how warm it stays for how long.
George WeigelTry to get grass seed planted by the end of October.Q: I’m doing a fence, retaining wall and landscape project. All of the rain has put me way back off the timeline. What is the latest I could plant grass seed this fall?
A: End of October is a good target date for finishing off the grass planting (and other planting, for that matter).
You may well get grass up after that date, depending on how warm it stays for how long. Grass seed isn’t that expensive, so I’d take a chance even if you can’t get to it until the first couple of weeks of November.
Otherwise, at least get some straw over bare dirt to prevent erosion over winter.
